I have been waiting a LONG time to share the boys’ room! I’ve also been waiting a long time to finally FINISH the room. So without further ado, here it is!
This room has been a labour of love. For many years EM and I have waited to give the boys a room that they could call their own – a place that inspired their little minds to play and create, and that dream is finally realized!
Since we live in a 2 bedroom apartment, their room isn’t the largest, but it is PERFECT for two independent gents. I knew I had to find a bed arrangement that would allow for optimal space saving! Enter the TODDLER SIZED (yep you read that right!) Montessori house bed style BUNK bed! I found this amazing handmade bed on Etsy at the Silver Elk shop. I HAD to have it! But alas, mama was on a BU-DGET! Thankfully Christmas was right around the corner, and thanks to the boys’ grandmother, my dream of a bunk toddler bed became a reality!
The boys had slept in our room since birth, and EM and I knew that if we were going to make this transition it had to be with something special! And this is it!
We wanted to give them a space that wasn’t bogged down with a ton of toys (and y’all they have WAY too many – thank you closets!), and a place where they could be themselves. Even if that means bouncing off the walls, or placing their Nugget at the foot of the stairs and jumping on to it. *don’t tell EM*
The boys LOVE books! We have several boxes still packed away from moving, yet we decided to forgo a large book shelf and go with these smaller wall mounted ones from IKEA. [FLISAT Wall Storage] They’re perfect for smaller rooms since they don’t take up floor space! *We interrupt this perfectly shot room post, for a little behind the scenes action. Theo sitting on the other side of the room waiting for his close up. LOL*One of the challenges we faced when putting the room together was bedding. We had great down comforters, but they were so big that they spilled over the sides of the beds. They were impossible to tuck in, and to be honest I feared S slipping down the steps if the blanket got in the way. I had to find a solution! I remembered once seeing this great bedding that zipped. To google I went and low and behold I found it again! Beddy’s Zipper Bedding is the perfect solution for ANY size bunk bed! Heck, any bed! Beddy’s Bedding is handmade and one of the most genius designs I have ever seen! One of the most difficult things when making a bunk bed is, well, the bed. It’s awkward and trying to tuck sheets and a comforter in is no easy feet! The Beddy’s Zipper Bedding goes on like a fitted sheet. No extra step required. Then you’re done! No need to fuss with all the layers, as this is all in one. You simply unzip the sides and a soft minky sheet is found inside! S loves getting in and zipping himself up inside! The great thing about that is that it keeps the blanket from falling on to the stairs at night. So no chance of slipping while trying to get down in the middle of the night.
Then in the am all they have to do is tuck the sheet sides in, and zip up the sides.
With every good room makeover comes the must have DIY. This past Christmas the boys received a Little Tikes Basketball Set, but while the hoop itself is great for two growing boys, the color did not ignite a lot of design love for this mama. Spray paint to the rescue! For those that follow my InstaStories (and if you don’t – you should!) you will remember my issue with streaking. I learned the hard way that I am not a Joanna Gaines, and I’m more of an Amelia Bedelia. But thankfully white spray paint is rather forgiving and the streaks blend. I will say that you need more than 2 cans if this is something you plan to do yourself. If you look close you can see that the bottom isn’t fully covered. But who’s looking? Oh, wait…Enough about basketball, you say? There is a stunning macrame wall hanging to discuss?…Well – who am I to disappoint?! HA! This was one of my favorite DIY projects in a long time! However it is not for the impatient. Which is ironic…Regardless even though I may have started and stopped, and restarted and stopped, approximately 4, maybe 5 times, I eventually ended up with a finished product that I’m incredibly proud of. I now fully understand why these types of wall hangings are so darn expensive! It is a LOT of work!
After I hung my finished piece I looked at it thinking the wall lacked color. While colors I wanted to keep muted, I wanted the room to be filled with texture. This Tie-Dye Soft Blue Pom Pom Garland wall decor from Lorena Canals was exactly what I was looking for!
In hopes to keep the space easy to clean up I have implemented a three basket system. I found these at White Rope Baskets at Target (currently on sale). They are sturdy enough for the boys to step all over them and not get ruined. That is a very important feature with two rambunctious boys! Then, in keeping with toddler proof decor items, the Berber Beige rug from Lorena Canals is machine washable and dryer safe! Yes I have already washed it, and it holds up real well! Handmade using natural dyes and 100% natural cottons, this rug is perfect for a kids room!We wanted to create a room where the boys could explore and learn through play, and where they could grow together. When you are little you think time drags on, but then you become a parent and 4 years fly by in the blink of an eye. Soon you start to forget how little your littles really were. Thankfully with this Growth Chart by White Loft, we can measure their height (or Woody’s) and take those memories with us no matter where we move! I hope to one day measure our grandkids with it, showing them how big their daddies were. Speaking of daddies. Sebastian has been obsessed with doing everything like his daddy. *heart melt* He has to button his shirts to the top button because that’s how daddy does it (he wears a suit and tie to work). And most importantly he has to wear a belt. Always. I put a mirror at their eye level giving them a place to get ready in the am. S has to always makes sure his “cowboy suit” is just right. It’s the little moments such as these that create the wonderful magical memories we treasure in the years to come. After all your childhood bedroom is where you can travel to distant lands and explore galaxies far far away. Last but not least, I wanted the boys to have a constant reminder of who loves them most. Jesus. As they enter their room, the first thing they see is a crucifix, and the last thing they see upon leaving is this goodnight prayer I wrote for them. Reminding them to always begin and end their day with their eyes, minds, and hearts on the Lord. This room was a labor of love, one I now get to enjoy with the two little boys who inspired each aspect of it.

Hi there! Room looks awesome! Where did you get the white shelves that hang on the wall above the 3 baskets?
martinabohnslav says
Thanks!! So those I didn’t tag because they were from my parents. They were originally from IKEA – back in 2003 and were for DVD’s. They didn’t need them any more so they gave them to us!
