Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! It’s Friday!
Do you ever have one of those weeks where you are counting down to Friday, the second it becomes Monday? Because this week was one of those weeks in Casa Bohnslav. I was beginning to think that we were over the plague – yet apparently my kids are doomed to be sick FOR.EVER!
Last night was the first time I had my hair done since Evelyn was about 6 weeks old. It was so relaxing – then I went home. Not long after Theo began puking everywhere. Ha, bet you didn’t think you were going to get that kind of update during the FFS post. Just keepin’ it real y’all!
Once he was all cleaned up and in bed, Sebastian decided to join the puke fest. That was fun. Clearly EM and I didn’t get much sleep and today dealing with two sick toddlers and an infant was no walk in the park. Needless to say, I needed some extra time with Jesus.
So let’s dive in to week 2 …
The next day he decided to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me”. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the town of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth.” But Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him.” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” John 1:43-51
Why do we believe? A question I continue to ask myself upon reading this passage from John.
Why do we believe?
I strangely feel as though I am at a loss for words. I keep wracking my brain to come up with an answer. Yet words fail me. However it is with every fiber of my being that I believe. Not because I was told to. Not because it feels good to believe in something greater. I believe because I KNOW there is a God.
Often times I wonder how much easier it would’ve been to have been one of those early Christians, those first disciples. They truly got to KNOW Jesus. They got to see Him, touch Him, and be in the physical presence of Jesus. Our Lord and Savior. They got to be with God! It’s just mind-blowing! How much easier it would’ve been to believe when you can see first hand.
But then I stop. I realize they too had their challenges. They too had to have faith that He was who He said He was – when many tried to openly deny Him.
So again I ask, why do we believe? And the more I think about it, the more I realize the answer is simple. Because He loves us. One might say, well if God loves us, then why do so many claim to not believe. Because the same way we can choose to love and follow Him, others can choose not to. God gave us free will. Love can only be love if it is freely given.
It is that love that carries us through our darkest moments. It is that love that allows us to hold on when we begin to doubt. It is that love that calls out to us when we are lost.
I truly enjoyed reading everyone’s responses last week and hope more will join us this week. Tell us, how did you feel as you read this? Why do you believe?

I believe in our Heavenly Father because he is all things, the sun, the stars, the earth, & he is in all of us. We are all part of his creation. We are all here because of his plan, and we are birthed in the time and into the families we are meant to be in. His plan is mighty and beautiful.

It really is! Though being a flawed human I sometimes wish we could see the plan He has for us

I am very late this week; it’s been a hard week filled with illness here as well. I believe because, like you, I just know that God is and that he loves us. I was raised Episcopalian in the sense that we went to church on Sundays and had a nativity set at Christmas and said the Our Father at bed. But my parents didn’t really instil faith in us; I don’t remember them ever actually talking about their faith or teaching us about it, and I do remember realising when I was 9 that they went because it’s what you did, but didn’t actually believe in any of it. They stopped going to church shortly after, and I wasn’t able to go again until I was in college. But despite that, I always believed. It took me until I was 20 to become Catholic, but even in those years when I wasn’t going to Church, I never doubted God’s existence or goodness.

I loved this so much! So important to slow down in this season of life and really connect with Him!

Such a great post! Faith can be challenging, but I think it’s so important to learn, challenge, and question! That is what makes it stronger. Why do I believe? Because I believe in the historical Jesus and I have faith that He is God. Faith is where it’s at!

I loved this!! I believe because God is everywhere. Him and his blessings are all around us if we slow down to look

Oh I love this. It’s so hard to remember to slow down. I think I’m going to make that my challenge for the coming week.

Why do i believe? Because there are some questions that even google can’t answer 😉
But also because whenever I’m stuck or feeling lost or overall in a funk, it’s nice to remember that god put me here. He has a plan for me. He believes in me. So. It helps me to also believe in me!

(So did I pass??)

A+! 🤣

Yes! There’s some quote about how science (and google) explains the physical world – but faith explains the unexplainable.

As a child it was something that was told to me. That God is there and he will always be there for us. I had a really hard time for several years trying to understand why God would love someone when we made a choice to do the wrong thing.
But since I have become a mother I have a better understanding of God’s love. He loves us unconditionally and gives us room to grow and learn but let’s us know that he is there not matter what. He is walking with us on our journey just as we walk with our children on their journey. He provids us with love, comfort and advise even when we are not ready to hear it. But like a parents love I know that it is always there in both the times that I need it and the times that I don’t.
I have learned recently that I believe because where or not I am ready for His love it is always with me and there is comfort in that knowledge.

Why do I believe? Because I know God loves me more than anyone else could. But that’s because I’ve seen it. Unlike last week, where I couldn’t really relate to those disciples with blind faith in following Jesus, I totally relate to Nathanael. His initial response, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Is a very me response. It’s quick to judge and it takes more for me to initially believe. But also much like Nathanael, now that I have that belief, that faith in God and His Church, it’s not difficult to believe that there are greater things to be seen, that God will do greater things in my life. And even if I can’t see them or don’t want to acknowledge them, I believe in that God is working in my life and my heart.

I love how you mentioned God working in your heart as an example.
When my husband and I met he was an atheist. One who said he didn’t even believe there was a soul. I remember asking him, what would it take for you to believe. He said, a sign. Like a real sign. Well he got them. Many of them actually. And over that time I got to witness God working in his heart the more he started to allow God in.
He was quick to judge but then saw and felt God’s love and knew there were greater things for him. That God would do greater things so long as he allowed Him to.
