Hey y’all. Remember me?
It’s been a hot minute since I last posted. I’ve been battling two thoughts. 1) People think I’m just another wanna be mom blogger who started something and gave up. 2) No one actually cares. Then I realize, the first is a lie, and the second doesn’t matter.
Shell and Olive was started out of my love for writing, with the hopes that through my love of the written word I could extend a sense of solidarity to other mamas. To moms who may be feeling alone during the long days and nights of the newborn phase. To moms who may be one hair away from plucked bird status, after a day long battle with a toddler. Which as we know is more like terrorist negotiations.
Motherhood is the most amazing gift I’ve been given, while also the most challenging. So often in our social media age we see the perfect. The curated corner, the brushed hair and dewy makeup. But what we don’t see is the pile of laundry off to the side. The kids that were potentially bribed with a slurpee to take “just one more” family picture. Yet, as I sit here with two boys who are playing at my feet, wearing my t-shirts as nightgowns, and a little girl who is currently putting my shoe in her mouth, I remember that while the pictures are wonderful memories to look back on, they will never live up to having lived in the moment.
Life has its seasons. Stages that fluctuate like the weather in many cases. What’s important is to embrace them. Recently I went through a season of needing to focus on the little things. The day to day moments. Remembering that a day of happy kids is more important than anything else. Their childhood is short in the grand scheme of things, and it is a time where I want them to remember a mom who was present. Who was there for them when they needed her most. This is not to say that others cannot do that AND more, it is simply accepting what I myself can handle. As I often say. Know thyself!
So, in the spirit of knowing thyself I decided to step away. After all this is the beauty of a blog. It gives me the freedom to follow my passions and the liberty to take a break when needed. I’m a people pleaser and I always take on way too much. But this go around will be different. My goal is to get one solid blog post out each week. Make it something well thought out and meaningful – not that they weren’t before. Something truly impactful. I’d love to hear your thoughts on which day you prefer. Is there a topic you’d like to hear me discuss? Comment and let me know! I love hearing from you and genuinely appreciate and value your opinions!
